Chen Haowen is a filmmaker and visual artist, a graduate of Central Saint Martins. His artistic practice is rooted in the meticulous observation of individuals and the visual documentation of communities and urban environments. Haowen's work focuses on capturing subtle interactions and everyday experiences within their social contexts, with a particular interest in how urban environments shape and reflect the identities and stories of their inhabitants.

His life across multiple cities has enriched his cultural perspective. Haowen was born in an eastern coastal city of China, a region at the forefront of the country's urbanization and economic development. He currently resides in London and has also lived in Beijing for many years. These cross-cultural experiences have given him a profound understanding of diverse urban landscapes and cultural interactions. Drawing inspiration from Beijing's traditional culture, London's multicultural environment, and the rapid urbanization of his hometown, Haowen weaves these unique personal experiences into his work, forming a distinctive perspective on cultural migration, spatial memory, and identity.

Through film, installation art, and multimedia approaches, Haowen explores the relationship between people and space in an interdisciplinary way. His work is not only a documentation of urban life but also an excavation and re-imagination of personal and collective stories within the city. Against the backdrop of globalization, he is particularly interested in how urban spaces convey identity and emotional expression through their symbolism. His artistic narratives bring new meaning to the often-overlooked subtleties of daily interactions and emotions, becoming a bridge for people to understand and reflect on their relationship with the city.
Haowen's creative forms include documentary, video installation, and performance art, all aimed at exploring multiple facets of society. He emphasizes the role of urban space as a container for emotions, memories, and identity—spaces that embody both the conflicts and transformations of modern society, as well as the sense of belonging and connection people find within them. His works illustrate how cities, as social symbols, shape the lived experiences of their residents, seeking to inspire audiences to rethink their own relationship with the spaces they inhabit.

Through his ongoing exploration of space, memory, and identity, Haowen's artistic practice aims to create a sense of emotional resonance and cultural identity in contemporary society. He believes that art is not only a reflection of reality but also a bridge for cross-cultural understanding and dialogue, an essential means of re-examining the complex relationships between people, society, and space.
