Mold Marks on Jura Island

The roll of film was not developed until it had been left on a windowsill for a year after I returned to London from Scotland.
Over time, the film oxidised and became covered in rough, irregular mould, a far cry from the grain of traditional film.
The Isle of Jura is renowned for its distinctive whisky flavours, which often include maritime notes, mineral flavours and smoky notes.
Foucault's theory of ‘heterotopias’ proposes spaces that break away from the conventional social order - real spaces that allow individuals to temporarily escape social norms and power structures. For me, the Isle of Jura is just such a heterotopia. In my fast-paced urban life, I am bound by societal expectations and power networks, but Jura offers me a temporary escape from these constraints. Here, I can shed the identity imposed on me by society and face a ‘pure self’, free from outside interference and in deep dialogue with nature and time.
These mouldy spots not only symbolise the passage of forgotten time, but also reflect nature's transformation of human creations.
